In existence since 1990, the Swiss Cancer Research foundation, with the help of donations, provides funding for all areas of cancer research: basic, clinical, epidemiologic, and psychosocial research. A special focus is the funding of patient-centred research projects that result as far as possible in direct patient benefit.
The Swiss Cancer Research foundation board is responsible for distributing the funds to researchers. The board’s funding decisions are based on the recommendations made by the Scientific Committee, which reviews the grant applications according to clearly defined criteria.
The Swiss Cancer Research also supports the development and implementation of measures to fight cancer in Switzerland – namely, the National Strategy Against Cancer 2014–2020.
National Research Programme “Smarter Health Care” (NRP 74) is promoting
innovative health services research that will help to tackle the
practical challenges of caring for the chronically ill in Switzerland.
addition, NRP 74 is contributing to improve the usability of health
data and create a strong community of health services researchers that
conducts world-leading research in this area.
NRP 74 is operating with an overall budget of CHF 20 million and will run for five years.
